Manchester United: Primed for success or about to implode?

After Manchester United won 5-0 last night against RB Leipzig, they now have maximum points from both champions league games. In this blog we look if they will succeed or go up in a puff of smoke.

First we look at the management and the board. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is not a top tier manager but he knows how players feel and is a player first coach, but this can be to his detriment as players will take the advantage of his laid back demeanour. As his assistant he has Mike Phelan who was a major success as Sir Alex’s right hand man but flopped as a manager, I feel that he is the right man to guide Ole as he has been there and done it all.

Moving onto the board, Ed Woodward is nearly as useful as a chocolate teapot and needs to be fired before Ole. Woodward is the reason Manchester United have problems securing transfers and having to sign older strikers such as Edinson Cavani and Odion Ighalo in recent years. The Glazer family are not the best owners for the club, United was debt free before the Glazer take over in 2005. The club is now estimated to be in £474 Million in debt as of October 2020. The club need a major reshuffle and the Glazer to sell the club and concentrate on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the NFL team they also own.

We move onto the squad, Manchester United have a fine mix between world class ballers and mid tier talent. The club have a very good starting 11 but are hounded by the poor depth they have within the team. Players like Lingard, Jones, James and Shaw are all not good enough to play for the team but United have struggled to sell players in recent months.

Within the next transfer window United will need to strengthen the bench and Defence to make sure they are able to push for a champions league spot next season. Man Utd do have a lot of good youngsters coming into the team such as Greenwood, Williams and Mengi and could look to the academy to add depth like Sir Alex did with the class of 92.

Overall, Manchester United are a team ready to break through, they have one of the best teams in the league and will easily reach 4th or 5th this season and also should be able to reach the Quarter Finals of the champions League as a minimum. These should be the minimum expectation for all United fans, if this isn’t hit I think this will be the end of Ole’s time as manager.

Is Ole at the wheel?
