In just over 5 hours Arsenal take on Leicester City in match week 6 of the BPL. As an arsenal fan I figured we can delve a bit deeper into today’s fixture and discuss the fixture further.
This fixtures has been played a total of 144 times with the Gunners winning 67 times, the foxes 32 and 45 ending in a stalemate draw.
The most recent fixture in the carabao cup in September did end in a 2-0 win to the boys in red which they’ll hope to replicate at the Emirates this evening.
Arsenal come into this fixture having won 2 of their last 3 fixtures including a 2-1 win in the Europa League. However as an Arsenal fan myself, it was the most convincing result! And having lost our last league game to Manchester City, you could say already this is a vital game in the season so early on and will give an indication of just how much Artetas Army have progressed under the new manager.
Brendan Rogers and his boys will equally feel as though this is an important fixture having lost 3-0 to West Ham and just about stolen a 1-0 win to survival artists Aston Villa. But a confident display midweek in the Europa League will fill them with confidence leading into this away game.
So let’s give an insight into some key players for tonight’s match up!
Obviously the big talking point is both teams attacking force, in particular Jamie Vardy and Pierre Emeric-Aubameyang. Vardy certainly is more the man in form netting 5 goals already this campaign tied with no other than Harry Kane! Auba on the other hand has just the 1 goal and 1 assist to his name so he should be hungry to start adding to that goal tally and get his name back up with the top strikers in the league.
Nampalys mendy has took to the BPL effortlessly displaying his how comfortable he can be controlling the centre of midfield allowing his midfield partners to flourish with their attacking style of play with an impressive 91% pass completion rate u can be sure of a tidy performance from him. Arsenal however we anticipate will give their new Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey his first premier league start this weekend. Having controlled the heart of one of La Ligas most defensively stable sides for the past 2/3 seasons, many believe he will be Arsenals answer to Patrick Viera’s departure finally after all these years!
Finally we take a look at our CB pairings. Arsenal are likely to deploy summer signing Gabriel alongside fellow Brazilian David Luiz with the injured Rob Holding unavailable. Both are very strong on the balk as well as off as well, Gabriel in particular has had a lot of praise from several fans and pundits after his impressive start to life in England especially after securing a goal and a clean sheet on his debut.
Leicester on the other hand haven’t seemed to decide on a regular formation/selection for their back line option to choose having had 3, 4, and 5 at back already this season with one of the only ever presents being Johnny Evans so it will be interesting to see who Rogers selects and under what system.
So what can we expect to see! As always I’m predicting a very high intensity based Leicester performance with Arsenal soaking up pressure and breaking as often as possible with the likes of saka, Auba and Willian/Pepe in attack. If we had to choose a score line predictions with nothing separating the 2 sides other than goal difference in predicting goals! 3-1 to Arsenal, based on Leicester’s inability to focus on recent games.
